Venture Four Architects was founded in 1990. The firm has produced over 600 residences and a variety of commercial projects. The principals contribute over forty years experience in design, planning, graphic production and construction management. Each member of the team brings a variety of skills and knowledge to the design process.

E. Craig Kanewske, AIA
Principal—Architect

Craig studied architecture at the University of Texas. He began his career drafting duplexes for Southwest Design Associates. As branch manager of Jan Grierson Inc. Architects he designed numerous multifamily, planned unit development projects and custom residences in the United States, Mexico and Saudi Arabia. At R.M. Brown and Associates he designed numerous custom and speculative residences. As founding principal of Venture Four Architects he has produced a variety of industrial, office, retail, educational, religious and residential projects throughout Texas.

J. Rick Remore, AIA
Principal—Architect

Rick began drafting custom homes at Architects International and quickly moved into a design and management position. He became project manager at Les Ellason and Associates where he supervised both light commercial and custom residential projects. As project manager for Brandt Engineering he specialized in commercial tenant finish-out. At R.M. Brown and Associates he designed numerous custom and speculative residential projects. Upon graduating from the University of Texas School of Architecture he co-founded Venture Four Architects. As principal he has produced award-winning residences and a variety of commercial projects.

Douglas F. (Doug) Nissen, AIA
Architect, LEED AP, Sustainable Building Liason

Doug earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas in 1993. Prior to that, he studied Fine Arts, earning an Associate Arts degree, with an emphasis on sculpture. His tenure at Venture Four Architects began in 1994, managing residential and light commercial projects, specializing in remodeling design. In 2001, family priorities took him to Springfield, Illinois, where he served as Project Manager first for Steckel Parker Architects and later Renaissance Architects, working on various commercial projects, including new and remodeled facilities on the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis campus; The Illinois State Military Museum; Hampton Inn and Suites; several U.S. Post Offices; medical offices; and a number of retail stores, including Old Navy and Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

Doug returned to Austin and Venture Four Architects in 2007. He believes that Austin homeowners will continue to be challenged to evaluate whether to remain in their current homes, or move up to larger settings via new home acquisition or custom design. He is committed to assisting clients navigate the process of determination of an optimum solution to this perennial homeowner's dilemma, and is particularly enthusiastic about working with clients who wish to remain in their present homes, adding-on and/or remodeling.

Cynthia G. (Cindy) Vaughan, Associate AIA
Production Manager/System Administrator

Cindy studied architectural engineering at Nashville State Technical Institute. She has over 20 years experience producing and managing building projects beginning with her first drafting position for Randall Phillips Builders in Nashville. Upon moving to California she became employed by CCY3, where she drafted government housing projects. In Houston, she began CAD drafting for Perry Homes. She drafted multi-family projects at Residential Design Group in Virginia. After settling in Austin, Cindy contracted with several area builders to design and draft custom and speculative residences. Her current responsibilities at Venture Four Architects include producing and managing a variety of residential and commercial projects, production management and system administration. She is currently pursuing her goal to become a licensed Architect

Crystal Stein
Project Manager

Crystal graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Architecture. After returning to Austin, she worked for a local civil engineer producing utility installation drawings. Here at Venture Four Architects, Crystal produces residential projects and is currently working towards her license.

Tanya Remore
Office Manager

Tanya was born and raised in Austin. Tanya has been around the design business for as long as Rick has been in it. She is currently working toward her degree in Business Finance. She previously worked in the loan industry and is now managing the accounting and marketing offices here at Venture Four Architects.
